The Bishop's Child Poverty Initiative is interested in making contact with anyone concerned about child poverty and what a faithful
response from our church might look like. A Task Force has been established and can be reached via
Facebook,
Twitter (@adoPoverty),
their
website,
through the
Diocese
or by phone at 613-232-9791. All ideas are welcome; they look forward to hearing from YOU!
- Church School Activities and Activity Days have had a long history of partnering with Mission and Outreach, providing our children and youth ample opportunities to put their faith into action. Our children learn about the needs of others and how to respond, through special service projects and in-kind donations. (e.g., collections for St. Nicholas and for FAMSAC.) The primary focus for summer church school is outreach, including making cards for our shut-ins, creating stepping stones for the parish garden, baking cookies for the Fire Station, muffins for Silver Spring farm, and cookies (with lemonade) for our parish hospitality time. Our Saturday and mid-week activity days have also embraced out-reach, selecting one of our partners in mission and developing our programs around their needs, from cooking and baking to collecting and sorting in-kind donations and making cards or small gifts as an integral part of the day's activities.
- Youth Group - The youth of CCBC are fully integrated into the life of the parish, including our Mission and Outreach initiatives. Like all parishioners they can be seen lending St Nicolas a hand, gathering In-Kind contributions, and playing their part at the Children Activity Day outreach projects. Activities specifically designed for youth participation include community service projects such as raking leaves at Silver Spring Farm, lending a hand at an inner city lunch club, the annual youth M&O allocations, and other random acts of kindness.
- ACW (Anglican Church Women) - Meeting on the third Wednesday of each month, ours is a forum for Learning, Worship, Service, Mission, and Fellowship. Our hands and our hearts are kept busy with prayer and special service projects. Mission and Outreach provides financial support for our Diocesan participation and the postage for the Bales of goods, including hand-knit afghans, cardigans, and baby clothing we prepare and package to send to ten places in the North. Sometimes our meetings have guest speakers, many of whom come to share with us the work they do within the community. There is a D.V.D. in the church library entitled "Our History our Hearts" that features our work in the context of our wonderful Anglican heritage. If you would like to share this experience with us, we would love for you to join us, as you are most welcome.
Bales for the North
A NOTE ABOUT ACW BALES TO THE NORTH January 2012 - At present there is a deficit on the diocesan books for postage on the 2011 Bales to the North with nothing set aside for 2012 postage. Thus, the thing most needed this year is money for postage. CCBC would like to be able to contribute a substantial sum towards the postage and will only be sending limited NEW warm clothing for men, women, children and babies as well as household items like bed sheets. Please consider donating a cheque towards postage in lieu of January shopping. Cheques should be made out to 'St. Andrew's Group ACW' and directed to Helen Acton, CCBC's ACW Treasurer or dropped off to Heidi in the office.
The St. Andrews Group of our ACW is presently compiling their annual Bales for the North. Ten remote communities look forward to donations from our diocese and they especially appreciate this outreach.
Your contributions of new items can be made during February and March 2011, and left in the marked boxes in the main foyer.
Note: Please leave price tags attached to allow us to value the bales before packing. NO LIQUIDS please. For More Info Contact:
