No single website, brochure, or newsletter can adequately give expression to the fullness of a community. Christ Church Bells Corners (CCBC) is a Christian community that seeks to be a dynamic presence in the world God loves. With a rich history and a hopeful future, CCBC embraces the challenge of relevancy and faithfulness. This website does give a glimpse into who we are and what we do as a parish family. Check it out and come and see.
In 1853 a small group of Anglicans began to worship in Bells Corners as participants in the local Union Church. In time, this group evolved into the congregation of Christ Church Bells Corners, gathering in a small country church near the crossroads at Bells Corners where it worshipped for its first hundred years as a small, rural parish. With the development of suburbs that affected so many cities in the 1950s and 1960s, CCBC grew very fast in the post-war era and worshipped for many years at Bell High School. In the 1980s two building projects allowed CCBC to expand adjacent to the little country church that is now our chapel.

Today CCBC is an active, intergenerational parish of approximately 300 households. Regular worship rooted in the Anglican tradition is the fountain from which all of our life flows. The nurture of children, adult Christian education, pastoral care, community service, fellowship, and the stewardship of our many blessings are key elements of our life together. Ultimately, we believe CCBC is a family of disciples. There are so many groups, activities and events that give shape to our life together. Infused by the Holy Spirit we all work together: from altar guild to sides-persons teams, A.C.W. St. Andrew's Group to the Facilities Committee, office staff to church school teachers, musicians to the Finance Committee, the Holly Days Bazaar to Sunday drivers and much more. We are a parish family rooted in faith; offering regular financial contributions to maintain our momentum of ministry is a call made to each of us.
Christ Church Bells Corners embraces its reality as a multi- and inter-generational parish. With many programs for children and youth as well as a significant senior population living within the parish boundaries, it is often said you are as likely to see strollers in our aisles as walkers and wheelchairs. If you are seeking an experience in a dynamic Christian church, we here at CCBC invite you to come and see.

Peter John Hobbs has been the Incumbent of Christ Church Bells Corners since 2001. He spent his childhood in the Ottawa Valley and Manitoba and responded to a call to ministry after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Drama in 1986. Achieving his Baccalaureate in Theology from St. Paul University (SPU) Peter John was ordained in 1992.
Peter John also holds graduate degrees in Theology and Public Administration and is currently working on his Doctor of Ministry Degree at the Virginia Theological Seminary. He is also a sessional instructor at Saint Paul University.
Speaking candidly about what he enjoys in Ministry, Peter John says: "I guess I love preaching." He speaks enthusiastically about the close relationships he is able to develop with a diverse group of people, of the challenges of engaging with young adults on the burning issues facing the Church and society, and of the energy he feeds off of by working with children, youth and seniors. He remains passionate about social justice and financial stewardship.
Currently the Archdeacon of Carleton, over the years Peter John has been involved in many ways at the diocesan and National Church levels.
Peter John spends most of his free time with his wife Diane, and their three daughters, Hannah, Mary Grace and Rachel. He is an avid runner and likes canoe camping and dining with friends. Among other things he enjoys conversations about spirituality, social capital, scripture, administration, intergenerational life, the NFL and reality TV.
Biography to be added shortly.

Experience, wisdom, good humor, the heart of a pastor, and a pretty good cook as well. The Right Reverend Peter R. Coffin is all that and much more.
Yet, to people at Christ Church Bells Corners, more than anything Peter is a friend.
Prior to his years at Christ Church Cathedral as Dean of Ottawa, which were followed by being the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Ottawa,
Peter served as the rector of CCBC for much of the 1980s. When he retired as Bishop of Ottawa in 2007 to devote more time to his role as the Anglican
Bishop Ordinary of the Canadian Armed Forces, Peter and his wife Deborah returned to CCBC as parishioners.
In the early 1970s, Peter and Deborah spent three years is South East Asia, during which time their daughter Erin was born and Peter served as a
lecturer in Biblical Theology at the seminary of the House of the Epiphany in the Diocese of Kuching, Sarawak (Borneo) in East Malaysia.
He has been a professor in the Anglican Studies and Master of Pastoral Theology programmes at Saint Paul University, Ottawa.
With his years of experience at every level of the church, his vast travels throughout the world, and with degrees in Sociology,
Moral Theology, and International Affairs-Development Studies, it is a genuine gift that Bishop Peter has become Teacher-in-Residence here at CCBC.
While his other responsibilities often keep him on the road, on any given Sunday you can see him sitting beside Deborah or up front preaching and celebrating.
Occasionally he can be found in the church kitchen, likely taking direction from Erin who herself knows a thing or two about cooking.
Most notably, from time to time, Peter puts on his teaching hat and leads an adult Christian education program, details of which can be
found in the parish calendar of events.
Heidi is a child of CCBC having moved to Bells Corners as a teenager. Prior to coming on staff in 2002, Heidi was a Deputy Warden and volunteered in church school. She currently plays a vital role in parish communications, acting as the first point of contact within the parish.
As Parish Administrator and Executive Assistant to the Archdeacon Heidi has her hands full supporting our rector, our assistant curate (when we have one), CCBC's many parish committees, and members of the parish population. Her experience in business administration and volunteering for community non-profit organizations lends well to her ability to assist the CCBC community.
Outside of her work at the church Heidi has finally realized her love for interior design by recently becoming certified as an Interior Redesign Professional and Home Stager. She also does Colour Consultations and Professional Organizing. Heidi enjoys entertaining and spending time with family and friends. Of her work at CCBC Heidi says: "The best thing about my job is working with such great people in so many different capacities."

Church choirs, military bands, teacher, music arranger, conductor, rock bands, arts administrator, worship ensembles, multi-instrumentalist and much more.
Terry O'Connor has been a professional musician since the 1960s whose resume bears witness to his great diversity and musical gifts.
From 1966 to 2001 Terry served in many capacities as a musician in the Canadian Armed Forces. All during that time he was deeply involved in music ministry in the many
Christian communities of which he was part, moving from here to there as military folks are apt to do.
Terry's love of all kinds of worship music makes him an ideal Music Director for Christ Church Bells Corners as we seek a balance within the traditional and contemporary realities of Christian music. Directing the Senior Choir, accompanying the Junior Choir, and leading our own music ensemble are central to Terry's work here at CCBC. Behind the scenes Terry is organizing, arranging and planning for our multi-faceted music ministry.
Pat enjoyed a wonderful career teaching primary children in Hamilton and Ottawa for 33 years and is now enjoying retirement with her husband Larry and family. As a teacher, Pat's musical skills were utilized and appreciated by many primary, junior and intermediate choirs while working for the Ottawa and Ottawa-Carleton District School Boards. Pat has always had a special gift and love of music, and being able to share that joy with children has been a very rewarding experience for all.
Since joining the Christ Church Bells Corners congregation in 1983, Pat has volunteered with the Bazaar, Spring Barbecues, Children's Activity Days and has been involved in the music ministry with both the senior and junior choirs. She has conducted the Junior Choir for over 20 years, and feels very blessed to have worked with so many talented, enthusiastic, and dedicated children. The Junior Choir sings monthly and on special occasions, and has enjoyed performing several musicals over the years. Singing with the Senior Choir is always a highlight.
Pat says AIt is a real privilege to serve in a field you feel so passionate about. I can't think of a better way to show God's love, than by ministering to others through the gracious gift of music. Music truly does make your heart sing!
